From Two Skis to Slalom

Most beginners start on two skis because they offer more balance and stability. Once riders are comfortable getting up, crossing the wake, and controlling their position, they can progress toward slalom skiing on one ski. Our coaches adjust the session based on each rider’s comfort, strength, and experience level.

Learn to Waterski in Muskoka

Classic never goes out of style

Waterskiing is where it all started — and it’s still one of the best things you can do on a Muskoka lake. Whether it’s your first time on two skis or you’re working towards slalom, there’s nothing quite like cutting across a glassy lake on a summer morning.

Looking for waterski lessons in Muskoka? Muskoka Wake helps beginners, kids, teens, adults, and experienced skiers build confidence behind the boat with NCCP certified coaching and premium equipment. Whether you are learning on two skis for the first time or working toward slalom skiing, our instructors make each session safe, fun, and easy to follow.

Waterskiing is available as a Dockside Clinic (our boat) or Private Lesson (your boat).

PRIVATE LESSON

Best for guests who already have access to a boat and want professional waterski coaching on their own setup. Muskoka Wake instructors come to you and help with safety, technique, boat setup, rider confidence, and progression.

DOCKSIDE CLINIC

Best for families, cottage guests, and groups who want Muskoka Wake to bring the full experience. We arrive with the boat, instructors, waterski equipment, safety gear, and everything needed for the session.

FAQ

Absolutely. Most first-timers are up on two skis within their first session. Muskoka Wake instructors break it down step by step — from getting into position in the water to riding away clean.

Many beginners can get up on two skis during their first session, but every rider learns at a different pace. Comfort in the water, balance, strength, and previous watersport experience can all make a difference.

The goal of the first waterski lesson is to build confidence, learn the correct starting position, and help the rider understand how to stay balanced behind the boat.

Muskoka Wake provides a full selection of waterskis for different ages, sizes, and skill levels. This includes beginner combo skis, slalom skis, and equipment for riders who are learning or progressing.

All required waterski equipment is included, so riders do not need to bring their own skis.

Most beginners start on two skis because they provide more stability and are easier to control. Two skis are the best option for learning the basics, including getting up, staying balanced, and crossing the wake.

Slalom skiing uses one ski and is more advanced. It requires stronger balance, more control, and better body position. Muskoka Wake instructors can help riders progress from two skis to slalom when they are ready.

Dockside Clinics run behind premium 2026 MasterCraft or Malibu boats. These boats provide a smooth, consistent pull for riders and allow our instructors to create a safe learning environment.

For Private Lessons, our instructors work with your boat and help adjust the setup as much as possible for the rider’s skill level and comfort.

Yes — riders rotate throughout the session. Great for families and groups.

A Dockside Clinic is the best option if you want Muskoka Wake to bring the boat, instructors, waterski equipment, and safety gear to your dock or a nearby location.

A Private Lesson is best for guests who already have access to a boat and want professional coaching on their own boat. Our instructors come to you and help with technique, safety, confidence, and progression.

Wear a swimsuit or comfortable water-friendly clothing. Muskoka Wake provides the required safety gear, including life jackets, and wetsuits are available when needed.

It is also helpful to bring a towel, sunscreen, water, and a change of clothes for after the session.
